What is average attractiveness on a 1–10 scale?
On an honest 1–10 scale, average attractiveness is a 5, and most people sit between 4 and 6. Online it often feels like 7 is average, because friends, strangers and chatbots round up out of politeness. On BecomeTen's 0–100 score, an average, healthy, groomed adult lands at about 50 to 60, spanning a 5 and the low end of a 6.

Explore proportionsWhy 5 is the middle
A scale is only useful if its middle means the middle. If most faces are rated 7, then 7 is average on that scale, and the numbers above it are squeezed into a narrow band where small differences vanish. An honest scale puts the bulk of people around the centre, with fewer and fewer towards each end. That is how ratings of real faces spread out: a wide middle and thin tails.
Average also does not mean plain or unattractive. It is the most common place to be, and it describes a face where nothing stands out as a weakness. Most people who look after their skin, hair and sleep sit there. The difference between a 5 and a 6 is usually workable rather than structural: clearer skin, a haircut that suits the face shape, a rested eye area and a photo taken in good light. Bone sets the range; grooming and health decide where in it you land.
How the scales line up
| 1–10 | BecomeTen 0–100 | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | 35–49 | Below the middle, usually pulled down by one or two workable areas |
| 5 | 50–57 | Average: a healthy adult who takes care of themselves |
| 6 | 58–64 | A little above the crowd, still in the widest band |
| 7 | 65–77 | Clearly above average; less common than the internet suggests |
| 8 and up | 78 and up | Striking structure; rare by design |

Why online numbers run high
Most people rating a face online are being kind, and most apps are tuned for a result people want to share. A general chatbot, with no fixed scale, tends to land in a polite upper-middle band too; see does ChatGPT rate everyone an 8. So a 7 from a stranger often means a 5 said nicely. BecomeTen holds the middle at 50 to 60 on purpose, which why average is 50 explains. If you want to know where you sit, how attractive am I on a scale of 1 to 10 covers how to get a fair reading.
