Where does the PSL scale come from?
PSL is shorthand for three forums, PuaHate, SlutHate and Lookism, where a 1 to 8 rating convention took shape in the 2010s: 4 is an ordinary face, 6 is rare, 7 and 8 are almost never given. It is a folk instrument with good calibration instincts and no validation, and it came bundled with a ladder of labels that BecomeTen does not use. The PSL tier chart: what each number means
A PSL score only means something next to the ladder it sits on, so here are the rungs read neutrally, with the BecomeTen tier each one lands in. The community attaches a nickname to each number; the middle ones are harmless shorthand, the top ones are named after an archetype, and the bottom ones are slurs for the person being rated. The slurs are described, not repeated.

Two things follow. First, most people who take a PSL test land between 3 and 5, and that is the scale doing what it was built to do, not a judgement of the person. Second, decimals matter here in a way they do not on a ten-point scale: the distance from 4.0 to 5.0 is a different tier of face, so a tenth is worth watching. How the BecomeTen 0–100 score maps to PSL
BecomeTen scores from 0 to 100 and shows the PSL equivalent next to it. The mapping is fixed, applied in code and the same for everyone. Notice the shape. Half of the 0–100 scale sits at PSL 4 or below, and everything from PSL 6 upward is squeezed into the top quarter. That matches how the forums use the scale: crowded around the middle, thin at the top. It also means a move from 55 to 62 is a full PSL point, while a move from 90 to 97 is less than one. Roughly twelve to thirteen points of the 0–100 make one rung in the middle of the range, so a half-point of PSL is about six points.
Why PSL is shown as an equivalent, not the primary number
The rating is built on 0–100 because a hundred points can carry detail that eight cannot. Five areas each get their own score; 30 or more traits each get a band; potential is capped per area, by 6 points for harmony and by 25 for skin. None of that arithmetic survives a squeeze into one integer between 1 and 8. Fold it down and a 3-point gain in the eye area, real and visible in a photo, disappears.
The 0–100 also keeps the score from inheriting the forum's baggage: a ladder of labels for people, a habit of rating celebrities and strangers, and a culture that takes the number as destiny. BecomeTen rates only the photo in front of it, runs no leaderboard and never compares you to anyone else. Showing PSL as a translation keeps the useful part, a strict scale in a vocabulary you already know, and leaves the rest behind.

Why a one-photo PSL is an estimate
Forum ratings come from several photos and several raters. A BecomeTen score comes from one photo and one fixed rubric. That is repeatable, not swayed by who is in the thread, and cannot be argued upward. It also has a hard limit: a single 2D image cannot support a measurement, so structural traits such as canthal tilt or gonial angle come back as directional bands, positive, neutral or negative, never as degrees.
Capture quality moves the number too. A chin tilted down sharpens the jaw; a lens too close enlarges the nose; overhead light darkens the under-eye. Each of those can shift the overall by a few points, which on the PSL side is a few tenths. So treat the PSL equivalent as a band with a centre, not a verdict. Calibrated to be strict. An average, healthy, groomed guy lands 50–60 — not 75+. A rater that tells everyone they are above average is telling you nothing, and you already know it.

Questions
Is PSL a scientific scale?
No. It is a community convention that grew out of three forums, never validated against a reference panel and never published. Perception research does exist, on symmetry, averageness, skin and adiposity, and BecomeTen cites it, but the 1 to 8 scale itself is folklore with good calibration instincts. Treat it as a shared vocabulary, not a measurement.
Is a PSL 5 on BecomeTen the same as a PSL 5 from a forum thread?
Close, but not identical. A thread gives you the average of whoever showed up, from several photos, with their biases. BecomeTen gives one fixed rubric applied to one photo, mapped to PSL by a fixed formula. Both describe the same face; expect them to agree on the tier and to disagree by a few tenths.
Can my PSL score go up?
Within the potential caps, yes. Skin, hair, body composition and grooming are workable and can move the 0–100 by enough to cross a PSL integer, most often from the high 3s into the 4s or the high 4s into the 5s. Bone does not move without surgery, so the structural share of the score stays where it is.
Is there a PSL scale for women?
It is the same scale. The forums built it rating mostly male faces and gave the female top rung its own archetype name, but the numbers, the midpoint at 4 and the rarity above 6 are identical. So are the caveats: an informal convention, one photo, an estimate with a band around it. BecomeTen applies one rubric to every face and does not adjust for gender identity, so the PSL equivalent means the same for a woman as for a man.
