Answer · Eye area
Can eye spacing be changed?
Not the spacing itself. How far apart your eyes sit is set by the bony eye sockets, and no exercise, massage or routine moves them; BecomeTen does not recommend surgery. What changes is how the spacing reads. Brows, glasses frames, eye makeup and hair volume all shift the apparent gap, and a close phone lens distorts it more than any of them.

Explore eye areaWhy it is fixed
The eyes sit in the orbits, and the orbits sit in the skull. Their spacing grows with the face through childhood and is set once growth finishes. BecomeTen tags eye spacing structural: the plan never promises to change it and the potential image is never allowed to redraw it. That is also why the forums' framing is unhelpful. Spacing is one of the most ordinary variations in a face, and how far apart should your eyes be? explains why neither end is rated lower.
What changes how spacing reads
These are styling conventions rather than research findings, but they follow from how the eye judges the middle of the face:
- Brows. Brow heads that start closer to the nose pull wide-set eyes together visually; starting them further out opens close-set eyes. Tidying the inner ends is the cheapest lever.
- Glasses. A frame with a narrow bridge pulls the eyes together; a wide bridge spreads them. Frames much wider than the face make eyes look close-set. The glasses by face shape guide covers fit.
- Eye makeup. Liner and shadow concentrated at the inner corners shrink the gap; concentrated at the outer corners, they widen it.
- Hair. Volume at the sides widens the outer fifths, so the eyes read closer together. A centre parting shows spacing as it is.
Check the photo first
Many people who think their eyes are close-set are looking at selfies. A phone a hand's width from the face is a wide-angle lens used close: the centre of the face grows and the sides fall away, which changes the ratio the eye reads. A slight head turn shrinks the far eye and the gap together. Hold the camera at arm's length, at eye level, head square, and use the eye spacing test for a band rather than a guess. Why do I look different in photos? covers the lens effect in more detail.

Questions
Do wide-set eyes become closer as your face grows?
In childhood, the face grows around the eyes, so a young child's eyes often look wider apart relative to a small face than they will in adulthood. Once facial growth is finished, the spacing is set and does not change with age, weight or routine.
