Answer · Scales
How do I know if I am attractive?
You cannot judge it well yourself, because you see a flipped mirror image and you are used to it, and people who know you tend to be kind. The fairest read comes from strangers or a rater with a fixed scale, looking at a good, honest photo. Even then the answer is a range, and much of what moves it is workable.
How the parts of a face relate to one another.
Explore proportionsWhy your own judgement is unreliable
You see your face more than anyone, but almost always in a mirror, flipped, close up and in the same bathroom light. A photo looks off by comparison, which is why you look different in photos. Mood shifts the judgement too: the same face can look fine on Monday and wrong on Friday. Friends and family know you, so what they see includes your voice, humour and history. That is real, but it is not the stranger's first impression most people mean by the question.
Fairer ways to check
- Start with a fair photo. Even front light, phone at eye level and at arm's length or further, neutral expression, no filter. A bad photo answers a different question.
- Use a scale with a stated average. A rater that tells you where average sits, and keeps it there, gives a number you can place. The attractiveness test is calibrated so an average, healthy, groomed adult lands between 50 and 60 out of 100.
- Look at the spread, not one opinion. One person's reaction, or one chatbot reply, says more about them than about you. Several readings in similar conditions say more.
- Notice real-world signals with caution. How people respond to you in person mixes looks with confidence, warmth and context. It is a fair signal, just not a pure one.
What to do with the answer
Most people land near the middle, which on an honest scale is a 5 out of 10; what is average attractiveness explains why that is not an insult. The useful part of any read is what it points to. Bone structure is set, but skin, hair, grooming, body fat, posture, sleep and the photo itself are all workable, and they are where most of the gap between a person's photos usually comes from. Can you become more attractive covers what moves and what does not, and the how to glow up guide puts the levers in order of payoff.
