Eyebrow shape for your face shape
This eyebrow tool reads your brows from one photo, in your browser: how high the arch rises, where it peaks and whether the tail sits higher or lower than on most faces. It also finds your face shape and suggests the brow shape that usually suits it, so you can see how far your current brows are from that before you groom or tint.

Why eyebrows matter so much
Brows frame the eyes, and the eye area is the part of the face people look at first. They are also the easiest facial feature to change: grooming, tinting and growing them out move how the eyes and even the whole upper face read, within weeks and without anything invasive. In a sample of Reddit rating threads we read, brows were the feature people commented on most often, ahead of the nose, the skin and the hair.
Brow position also changes how the eyes read. A lower brow sits closer to the lid and gives the intense, hooded look the forums call hunter eyes; a higher brow shows more upper eyelid and reads open. That part is mostly bone and habit. The shape of the brow is the part you can style.
What the eyebrow tool measures
| Reading | What it is | Bands |
|---|---|---|
| Arch | How high the peak rises above the line from brow head to tail | Straight, soft arch, high arch |
| Peak position | Where along the brow the arch peaks | About two thirds of the way out is typical |
| Tail | Whether the tail sits higher or lower than on most faces | Lifted, typical, dropping |
| Face shape | The outline the brows sit in | Oval, round, square, oblong, heart, diamond |
A face mesh finds the upper edge of each brow on your device, and the tool compares each reading with real frontal photos run through the same mesh, so straight and high arch mean straighter or higher than typical, not against a drawing. Nothing is uploaded.
Which eyebrow shape suits which face shape?
| Face shape | Brow shape that usually suits it | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Oval | Soft, slightly angled arch | Keeps the balance; most shapes work |
| Round | Higher, angled arch peaking toward the outer third | Adds length and structure |
| Square | Soft, rounded arch | Softens the angles of the jaw |
| Oblong | Flatter, straighter brow, extended slightly outward | Adds width, shortens the face |
| Heart | Rounded, lower arch | Balances a wider forehead |
| Diamond | Curved arch, full width kept | Softens wide cheekbones |
This advice comes from brow artists and makeup practice, not from perception studies, and it is a starting point rather than a rule. What the research does support is that brows affect how expressive, how young and how masculine or feminine a face reads, and that well-groomed, full brows read as healthier than over-plucked ones. Find your outline first with the face shape detector if you want the shape on its own.
How to take the photo for a brow reading
- Brows relaxed. Raising them lifts the arch and the tail; frowning drops both. Look at the camera with a neutral face.
- Hair off the forehead. A fringe over the brows hides the edge the mesh reads.
- Camera at eye level, face square. A camera above you drops the tails in the image.
- Bare brows if you can. Brow pencil or gel drawn outside the natural edge is read as brow.
How to change your eyebrow shape
Grow first, then shape: brows that have been over-plucked need two to three months to fill in before a new shape can be judged. Remove only stray hairs below the brow and between the brows, not along the top edge, which sets the arch. To raise the tail, tidy under it rather than plucking the top. Brow gel and a pencil a shade lighter than the hair fill gaps without a drawn-on look, and a tint makes light brows read fuller. Minoxidil is sometimes used off-label for sparse brows; discuss it with a doctor.
Questions
What eyebrow shape suits a round face?
A higher brow with a defined, slightly angled arch that peaks toward the outer third usually suits a round face best, because the upward line adds length and structure. Very rounded or very straight brows tend to repeat the face's roundness or widen it. Tidy under the tail rather than plucking the top edge.
Where should the arch of my eyebrow be?
Most brows peak about two thirds of the way from the head of the brow to the tail, roughly above the outer edge of the iris when looking straight ahead. The tool reports where your arch actually peaks against that typical position, so you can see whether grooming has moved it inward or outward.
Do straight or arched eyebrows look better?
Neither on its own. Straight brows tend to read younger and softer and suit longer faces; arched brows read more defined and suit rounder faces. What reads best is the shape that balances your face and keeps the brows full and even, not one shape for everyone.
