How do you ask ChatGPT to rate your looks?
Send one clear, front-on photo in even light and ask for specific observations before any number: what helps, what hurts, and which of those you could change. That gets the most useful part of a chatbot's answer. Treat the score itself loosely, because it shifts with the wording of the prompt and has no fixed average behind it.
How the parts of a face relate to one another.
Explore proportionsStart with the photo
Any rater, human or AI, rates a photograph rather than a face, so the photo decides more than the prompt does. The same rules that apply to a dedicated rater apply here:
- Even light from the front. A window in front of you, not a ceiling light above.
- Phone at eye level, arm's length or further. A close lens enlarges the nose and narrows the jaw.
- Neutral expression, hair off the forehead, no filter. Beauty modes smooth away exactly what you want assessed.
How to take a photo for a face rating explains each rule, and the true mirror shows the photo the way others see it, un-flipped.
Ask for observations, then a number
A prompt that asks only for a score invites a polite guess. A prompt that asks for reasoning first gives you something you can act on. Something along these lines works:
Stating that 5 is average gives the model an anchor it otherwise lacks. Asking it to split workable from structural keeps the answer useful. The model may still decline or hedge, and that is a reasonable choice on its part rather than a fault in your prompt.
Why the number still wobbles
Even with a careful prompt, a general chat model is not calibrated against a fixed scale. Ask in a new chat, add "be brutally honest", or change the crop, and the number can move while the face stays the same. As a general tendency, its scores lean generous; see does ChatGPT rate everyone an 8. Fishing for a better number by rewording only measures the prompt.
If you want a score you can compare over time, use a rater that keeps the scale fixed. The attractiveness test scores one photo out of 100 against one rubric, with the average stated, and grades the photo before it scores it. Can ChatGPT rate my face compares the two approaches.
