Answer · Eye area
Are hunter eyes just squinting?
In many photos, yes. Chin down, eyes raised toward a camera held above eye level, brows pulled down and the lower lids tightened: that pose narrows the opening, hoods the lid and fakes a positive tilt on almost anyone. Structural hunter eyes are different. They show on a relaxed, eye-level photo, because they come from bone and brow position.

Explore eye areaHow the pose fakes it
- Squinting lifts the lower lid and narrows the opening, which reads as the long, narrow eye the forums want.
- Chin down, eyes up makes the upper lid cover more of the eye, so it reads hooded and deep-set.
- Camera above eye level turns the outer corners up in the image, so the tilt reads positive.
- A slight frown drops the brow toward the lid, the low brow that completes the look.
Each of those is a choice of angle or expression. Together they produce most of the hunter-eye selfies online. Hold the same face relaxed in front of a camera at eye level and the effect is gone. The squint has a cost too: the narrowed lower lid and tense brow often read as tired or hostile in person.
What the real thing is
As the hunter eyes entry defines it, the structural version is a deep-set orbit under a prominent brow ridge, a brow that sits low and straight at rest, little visible upper lid and an outer corner sitting higher than the inner. Those come from bone and ligament. A relaxed, eye-level photo shows them; a pose only borrows them for one picture. Can you get hunter eyes? covers the parts that are genuinely workable, such as brow grooming, sleep and body fat.
How to tell which you have
Take the honest photo: camera at eye level, face square, arm's length away, looking straight at the lens with relaxed brows and no smile. The hunter eyes test reads three bands from it, eye opening, brow position and canthal tilt, and shows how many lean the hunter way. One or two is the ordinary result. BecomeTen grades the capture in its full rating, and a lowered chin with raised eyes is flagged rather than rewarded. If you want the softer opposite explained, see are prey eyes unattractive?.

Questions
Why do my eyes look like hunter eyes in some photos and not others?
Because angle and expression change the three traits the term is built on. A camera above you with your chin down narrows and hoods the eyes and tilts the corners up; an eye-level camera with a relaxed face shows them as they are. Compare photos taken the same way before deciding.
