HiFace vs BecomeTen: a face-shape app with subscriptions against a free calibrated score

HiFace is a styling app built around one detection: your face shape. The listing describes the flow as take a selfie, get a detailed analysis of your face shape, then find hairstyles, beards, glasses and makeup suited to it, try them on virtually, find a celebrity look-alike and ask an AI style assistant. The site, as read on 2026-09-07, added that it reads jawlines, cheekbones and proportions and returns a result in seconds, and the Play listing mentions face symmetry. It is a free download with a long list of in-app purchases, from a weekly subscription to a single extra analysis credit.

BecomeTen is a rater. One photo returns a score out of 100, one of eight tiers and a share card, free and without an account, in about a minute. The full report is €6.99 once and adds visible traits across harmony, eye area, jaw and chin, skin and hair, each as a directional band, a non-surgical potential capped per area, and a plan whose every step carries an evidence level and cites only a curated PubMed-verified library. Face shape is one input among many rather than the product, and there is a free face shape tool in the browser if that is all you want.

So the honest framing is that HiFace answers what suits my face shape and BecomeTen answers how my face rates and what is workable. They overlap only at the first step, the selfie. Where they diverge sharply is money: HiFace's listing shows subscriptions with a weekly tier, and BecomeTen has no subscription at all unless you choose PRO for progress tracking.

HiFace is for someone who wants a native phone app that tells them their face shape and then shows haircuts, beards, glasses and makeup on their own photo, and who is fine with a subscription for the try-on features. Its listing is rated 4+, which reflects the content rather than any age check, and its pages are about style rather than a rating. Its score scale, what appears before a purchase and whether any of its advice cites research are not stated on their site, so this page does not guess.

BecomeTen is for an adult who wants a strict number first and the working shown. The calibration is deliberate: an average, healthy, groomed person lands around 50–60, above 80 is reserved for striking structure, and the score is not adjusted for ethnicity or gender. Weak points are tagged workable or structural, and potential is capped in code at harmony +6, eye area +10, jaw and chin +14, skin +25, hair +20. It is 18+, English only, and it is also on the App Store and Google Play; the rubric is on the methodology page.

HiFace does not publish a rating scale. Its result is categorical: a face shape such as oval, square, heart or diamond, plus recommendations. That is a different kind of output from a score, and it is worth understanding what it can and cannot tell you. Face shape from a selfie is a rough classification of outline, and it shifts with hair, angle and lens distance; two apps often disagree, and the same app can disagree with itself between photos. It is useful for choosing a haircut and not much else.

A BecomeTen score is an estimate of the whole face against a fixed rubric. Face shape feeds into harmony, but the score also weighs eye area, jaw and chin, skin and hair, and it grades the photo for light, angle and sharpness before scoring. Two of HiFace's own pages said different things when read on 2026-09-07 (the site was down when re-checked on 2026-10-25). The home page states that all data is processed securely and never stored. The privacy policy states that users' face photos and face shapes are stored to improve the face-shape detection algorithms and the user experience, using machine-learning techniques, that face data is stored anonymously on cloud servers and not shared with third parties, and that a deletion request is completed within 3 days. The App Store label lists photos and videos as data not linked to identity. We quote both statements; which one governs your photo is a question for their support. The policy also says the service is not directed to children under 13, while the App Store rating is 4+.

On a BecomeTen free scan the photo is processed for the rating and deleted straight after; only the text analysis remains. A paid scan is stored encrypted in the EU until you delete it or your account, because a re-scan compares against it. No model is trained on your photos, and BecomeTen is 18+ by policy.
